If I may have a moment of your time, I would like very much to meet with you at the Station over the next few days to express my holiday sentiments towards you. Please inform me of a time that would suit you for such a meeting.
Dear Dorian, I would be happy to meet with you at any time. In truth I have been spending much of my time already at the Station. Regardless, for you I would be there instantaneously. I shall spare you the immediate trip, shall we say tomorrow, three in the afternoon or thereabouts? I will be looking forward to seeing you.
[ No telling which she'll get until there's a reply. Shijima's outdoors somewhere, and leaning towards her locket with her habitual slouch. ]
I'm leaving Caer Scima for a time. [ No further explanation, of yet. But at least this much of a warning she's tossing his way, as acknowledgement of their arrangement. ]
[Dorian's voice is delicate, here, a return perhaps to that shy boy that Dorian has grown out of being in the past month. He hesitates, but continues.]
That's correct. As a generalisation, they should have high agility and strength, but poor luck and little mana to use, while their endurance is middling. All are given a skill called Magic Resistance, which speaks for itself. Obviously they use spears or other such weapons. Which one is it, what does he look like?
[Still this thread only she replies directly to his locket, to make things a little less public.]
He's here, you know. Not the High King, but the one you really want to meet.
Would you like to?
[Some might say this is a risky move, revealing everything so soon...but those are people who've only lived double digit lifespans. After millions of years living among humans, watching them develop, getting to know how they behave...it's actually pretty easy for Lucifer to get a feel for what she can and can't do.
Jekyll would be out of the question right now, but this one? This one showed promise. She doesn't feel like it'll be a problem.]
voice; wow a personal call from the devil it's his dream come true
[Diarmuid has looked better. He's tired, pale, and actually laying in bed with his locket propped up on a nearby pillow.]
Greetings, my friend. I hope you are doing all right after our little...show. When you have some time, could we talk? I have something of a medical nature I would like to ask your advice on.
[Should he wait until after to ask about Diarmuid's health during and after their battle? And to apologise for it? Yes, maybe he'll wait until what's most important is out of the way.]
I am doing well, and pray for your health as well - I do wish to speak further on the subject of our 'show', afterwards.
[ sam's - in a bad way, as is immediately apparent from the ragged sound of his voice and the sheen of sweat across his face. one wing is drooping lower than the other behind him, and pain flits across his expression with every inhale. still, he's halfway between a grimace and a smile. ]
I really hate to ask, but - if you got the time, I could use your help.
Dorian does not specify whom this gift is intended for. First is a box, made of well-carved wood, carved with emblems of heroes and knights, or perhaps people killing one another and monsters for false causes. The inside is velvet-lined, and it might as easily hold a murderer's weapons as a doctor's tools. But what it holds, just presently, is a note. Instructions.
Go to the station. Search for 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'.
If that's what Dorian asks of him, that's what Berserker will do. Either part of him. It doesn't much matter which side does anyway, being two parts of the same man, which for once agree on something, the desire to do well by Dorian. To be close to him. So, it is not Jekyll, nor is it Hyde, but rather some mixture of the two, Jekyll-Hyde or just Berserker you might call it, who goes to the station. Although for what it's worth, his eyes are green.
And he worries for his friend. He knows all too well what it means for one's name to be the title of a book. Really what's worse is "The X of..." Strange Case, Portrait, there's something ominous in those words. So he goes, and finds the book, reads it immediately in one sitting. It's a shock for Jekyll, confirmation of what he already believed he knew, for Hyde. Henry can't believe the sweet boy he knows could be moved to such sin - and yet, it isn't so different from his own case. He certainly can't think badly of Dorian for it. It's more guilt than anything, sorrow and sympathy. Worst of all he understands the reason far too well, his heart aches for what their society did to Dorian. The one he himself bought into and promoted.
When he is done and has managed a moment to collect his thoughts, he sends a message over the rune.
[ Delivered to the runner-up of the melee via messenger. ]
"Berserker",
I'd like to congratulate you on two hard-fought matches. There are very few men that I have seen that can do what you have done with their bare hands. As such, in the name of sportmanship, I'd like to offer 500 gold marks to you to do with as you please. If you are still in Treun, I would very much like to deliver the gold in person.
[Sent back with the same messenger comes a letter in the hand of the other side of him, which did not fight in the tournament. Any words exchanged between them during their fights were no doubt the very opposite of what is written. Hyde is too bitter a loser.]
Ser Cullen, What a kind and generous offer, it is most civil of you, Ser. Normally I could not possibly accept such great generosity, yet for the sake of charity towards others, I must graciously accept, with all due thanks.
I shall meet you outside the stands, at your leisure.
Humbly yours, Henry Jekyll, M.D., D.C.L., LL.D., F.R.S., D.Sc.
[The slew of titles brought to you not in vanity but for a show of respect instead toward Cullen, to show his deepest sincerity by...presenting it like a legal document.]
[He should never have encouraged her poetic leanings. The parcel comes in person, accompanied by a lot of kisses and warmth. It contains:
1. A handcrafted lapel, shaped to be a dual-colored lily in red and silver. She did not make it, and she will apologize for that, but it caught her eye and seems to flatter Henry's equally dual natures. Joins them into one beautiful thing.
2. A card. 'Practically a post-it note,' she'll laugh, to hide her nerves. It reads:
Two and two In their eyes Reflected, I see, it's me.
She does not say outright that she wrote it unless pressed, and it's obvious Paloma intends it to be a gift for Jekyll and Hyde.]
[Hyde may also get a kiss (or a Kiss) if or when he shows up, but he is certainly not left out of the giving. Even if she'd meant the other presents to be directed at them both, it occurs to her that he is a selfish man and he may not appreciate it as much as Jekyll.
It also occurs to Paloma that at some point she's begun caring what he appreciates, so long as it doesn't compromise herself.
SO: his package is something he would not receive at any other time of the year. Hyde gets an ornate card only reading, I.O.U. Redeem for any favor. Not a wise gift, but not an easy one, either.]
[ She's Trying. There are two gifts, marked clearly as "Jekyll" and "Hyde". Jekyll gets a random book of poetry (...it's not very good and is in fact REALLY BAD) on the grounds that he's a nerd and might like that. Hyde gets a nice-looking knife, on the grounds he's practical.
There's also a short note.
'Happy Yuletide.' ]
December 13th, 2701 (SHE DID NOT FORGET HIS BIRTHDAY)
[You know what Jekyll doesn't have enough of yet? Lapel pins.
Have a linked pair of wings. And a sun; Paloma points out shyly that it's entwined with its lover, the moon.
She also shares with him the location of a tucked-away crevice in the rocky side of Srathmarbh-- it being less a crevice than a mostly dry, smallish cave. A good and solitary place for thinking, or stealing away.]
[It takes a little while for the call to be answered. When Jekyll is tired of trying to find his way through the forest and in too much pain to carry on without a rest, he leans back against a tree and sits, taking out his locket to respond.]
[ sam has been so busy funneling all of his time, effort, and money into getting the clinic up and running that by the time the spirit of the season rolls around ( or a season; he doesn't know shit about yule as a holiday, but it's close enough to christmas for him ), he figures there's really one thing he can do: give a little love.
CHARACTER NAME will find a basket of freshly made sam wilson baked goods, whatever THEY may have let slip as THEIR favorite over the last year, or something appropriately festive and silly if sam couldn't figure out anything specific. tied with a ribbon to the handle of the basket will be a handwritten note from sam, reading simply:
Three Reasons Why I Respect You
The very first thing you showed me was the your generosity, both as a doctor and as a person. That kindness is a rare quality in any world.
PRETEND I FINISHED THIS LIST
NO SERIOUSLY I SUCK I'M SO SORRY
Let me know if you want some more!
Big ol' sloppy hugs and kisses,
S. Wilson
'more' could very easily mean more baked goods or more shameless compliments; both are equally possible with sam. it's all he's got in his bag this year, but it'll have to do for now. happy yule or christmas or whatever you're feelin' today, friend. ♥ ]
[Despite the fact she just got stabbed with a magical cursed spear and made her way back to the clinic with her arm still bleeding, her reaction is pretty much unsuited for what she's approaching him for.
So, same as usual.
She finds the room Jekyll's always working in and stands by the doorframe, clutching her shoulder with her uninjured arm's hand.]
[Honestly the last thing he would have expected Lucifer to need him for would be his actual job. If anything even could hurt the devil, then obviously he'd heal up quickly. But when he hears his Master's voice and turns to answer to it, he sees the blood and...stares in shock.]
[she's free. she could sing if she wished it, can move her hands, examined herself in the mirror to find not a touch of silver upon her save her jewellery. it's such a relief, and it sets her in high spirits as she takes some time to practice her magic in the training yard. inch by inch, she can feel herself getting sharper.
and this same positivity is why when she notices someone familiar, she takes advantage of her break to come and speak with him. oh, speaking, she could recite an opera on her own with her relief.
[He's more subdued than usual, almost as if he's sulking. Because that's exactly what he's doing. At least he puts some effort in for Grell. She at least is worth it, so he bends into a sweeping bow, taking her hand to kiss it.]
That it has. You will have to forgive me, I hadn't expected to see you, or else I would have brought flowers.
I hope to find you well as you read this missive. If I may, I would like to speak with you regarding a Certain Person whose acquaintance I have recently made. He bore your face, but while you walk in shadow, he revels in darkness.
