[It's only that he's true to himself in a different way.]
Regardless, that isn't what I meant - what I should say is, does the same mind, or soul if you will, for lack of any better term, exist across all realities? For example, one of the Servants I faced, as it turns out, was the same hero as the Unseelie general Saber. And yet distinctly different, in personality and even sex. It is a little different to begin with as we are really more the copy of the original soul than anything and so cannot remember other summonings, but it is clear that she is 'a different person' across different worlds. Even if we had the ability to connect with different forms of our same selves, I doubt she and that Saber would know anything of one another. So if you do not recognise people like us, who you might otherwise, could that be the reason, that we do not normally exist as we are, where you are?
Oh, that's what you meant. Well he is pretty much different, but- [She taps under her right eye.] -he has the love spot and his name's Diarmuid.
I mean everything else was wrong, but sharing those two things makes it really obvious who he is. It's like if you told someone about the serum thing along with your name and they still didn't get it.
...assuming they're familiar with the book and stuff.
Ah, I see, well then, I suppose that's a little different, if you knew his name beforehand. Well, even so, one wouldn't expect someone they are familiar with to take another form, it's easily passed off as coincidence.
[He smiles to reassure her once again, as if she were the girl she appears to be and nothing more. Meanwhile, despite the conversation, he pays full attention to each and every stitch made, all perfectly uniform, pausing now and then to wipe some fresh blood. After making the last and closing off the end, he returns to the desk for a jar of honey, to layer over the wound.]
I'm glad that I am able to be of some use to you, for once.
Don't sell yourself too short. You'd be of more use to most other masters than Hyde would, I'm sure.
[It actually reminds her of Hyde, in a way; only rather than it sounding like a whole lot of tryhard kissing up, it sounds like a lot of tryhard reassurance. It's a strange way to see similarities between them anyway, and not one she expected.
So she's going to approach this how she approaches Hyde and ignore the topic, turning it to what he's doing instead, something she's more interested in.]
Well, even with my old Master I fear Hyde was really the more useful one.
[Wow it's not tryhard, geez...
After the honey comes gauze bandages, which he'll be insisting in days to come to reapply regularly and fuss over his Master plenty!!]
The honey? It promotes the cells' healing, and helps to prevent infection. Normally I would use something a little more 'professional', but circumstances as they are here, this really works just the same.
Right now I do once again, and I admit, it is difficult to deal with, even in having spent the vast majority of my life that way. I think that it truly shows, even in the face of being such as you or I, humanbeings are remarkable in their own right.
[Part of him realises the comedy in hearing something so serious and ancient coming from a teenage girl, who isn't hiding the truth of what she is from him, but still acts the part of her form otherwise. Berserker has to press his lips together to keep from laughing for that fact...but he can't help himself in smiling with all the implications of a laugh...]
I regret all that I was told of you for that reason, it seems to be quite the opposite of what is preached.
[Ohhh, she sees it. She doesn't particularly care though; being Hikaru just means being this way for her. The Devil's merely an idea, and ideas can be interpreted any number of ways. For the grand, the beautiful and winged Lucifer, that mysterious and charming personality is exactly what people would expect.
But for this, something just a bit more human, things aren't quite as serious. The only important thing to remember is the meaning of what she says, not how she says them.]
Just don't get the wrong idea; I might not hate humanity on principle or out of pride, but I don't love you either. Acceptance and love aren't the same thing.
For me, who's observed you all from the beginning, it's a simple matter of being faced with the question "will you let them wither and die?" and deciding I won't abandon you to the whims of all the crazy cosmic stuff that's out there.
Yes, I understand, but that is infinitely better for us than some abject love. I think that even Hyde would agree with that, and while that simple acceptance might be closer to the way he feels than I myself, it is essentially the same.
[Really the point is, he's sorry he was so horrified and afraid of Lucifer when he first found out, that was a mistake. Even if Lucifer doesn't feel something like affection, Jekyll does have it for his Master now...]
To think the one thing you guys would see eye to eye on is me, huh?
[And since he's probably lowered himself down to treat her shoulder properly, it means she can just reach over with her other hand and mess up his hair a bit.]
Although I guess considering all the servants I've met, you're the one I like most. [Except Saber considering she's pretty much all Satan'd up already, but that's out of the question, so Berserker will do as the one easiest to manipulate.] You're a good dog, Henry Jekyll.
[He would protest that they see eye to eye on her - because, well, in a sense they do, he guesses, but it's in an entirely different way! But that noogie stops him first, so instead he just stares. Naturally by the time she's called him a 'good dog', he's already turned a deep red.]
[Then he laughs, embarrassed, but grateful for praise from his Master, no matter how genuine it may or may not be. Although he doesn't think Lucifer would lie, anyway. It just probably doesn't mean as much as it would otherwise...]
Thanks, I try.
[Somehow it seems appropriate to kiss her head, maybe he forgets just who it is, but either way what can he do but show he has affection for his Master in return?]
As much as she likes it when people drop their guard around her over the whole Hikaru thing, that was a bit much, wasn't it?]
Yeah, yeah, okay. Don't go getting all affectionate on me; I'm still the big bad root of all evil on the inside, even if I don't look it on the outside.
-Of course I am entirely aware of that! However, what ever you may be holds no bearing on what I am, and so I cannot help but to be fond of you. Hikaru, Lucifer, it doesn't matter which personality you take.
[Which is really a byproduct of being someone who plays two parts as well, and trying to accept that about himself. It's much easier to come to terms with in someone else and to see it all as one.]
So there is some precedent after all! But, may I ask after Mirai?
[It's very rare to hear of someone other than a demon or some such entity...actually, come to think of it, he doesn't think anyone like that has been mentioned at all. But that sounds like a normal name, so, someone who's some kind of friend?]
[Oh, what the hell. He's been attentive and useful for over a year now, and it isn't like she's here. People knowing isn't a disadvantage considering that.]
Are you kidding me? She's my child, she's already independent.
[Of all the people he could've said that to. Really now. At least she doesn't sound mad, just...proud.]
Yeah, she stays on Earth - err, her Earth. I've been to a lot of Earths. We'd keep in contact every once in a while when I wasn't here. She's very...human where it matters. She's a very sweet girl; kind and considerate, really social...just like her mother was. But she's got my confidence and independence, not to mention my...rebellious streak. Even I couldn't make her do something she didn't want to if she was really against it.
Well...I won't lie, it's not like I planned it or anything. Her mother was more kind of like...a lover.
[The whole devil children thing is a very complicated deal.]
Plus when a demon and a human actually get involved like that, the chance of actually producing a child is low; I mean like, one in a million, and it got to the point where everyone started saying a devil child like that was destined to happen and a bunch of prophecies started getting drawn up. I thought it was kind of dumb; things just happen, you know? Although I guess the fact I was the one involved made people believe the hype even more.
But I don't know...at first I thought she was worth keeping just in case she was of any use. After a little while I started slipping out of Hell to see her more and more; one time I stayed on Earth for a few days straight because she got a cold.

I see...we don't really, uh, do the whole natural healing process thing. Gods, Angels, Demons...
Honestly, the material realm's such a pain. I kind of admire you guys for putting up with this all the time - or, well, you used to I guess.

It was just more convenient for God to say "Oh, but the devil doesn't just hate me, he hates all of you guys as well! You should all reject him!"

You two would probably get along pretty well.
I FEEL YOU
[Jekyll is all the more endeared to his Master to hear (s)he's so invested in and delighted by his daughter.]
She sounds lovely, I wish that I could meet her. Although I can hardly imagine what could lead to you becoming a father.
